Indians will have to shell out more money for movies in multiplexes like PVR and Inox . According to data shared by B&K research, the average ticket prices in PVR and INOX are likely to increase in 2020 and 2021.

“There will be meaningful increase in the ticket prices from 2020 to 8% in both INOX and PVR,” says the report.

This increase could be making up for the fact that ticket prices in movies have remained almost unchanged in the last two years. In fact, prices declined slightly during the financial year.

In the first quarter of 2019-10 the average ticket prices were at ₹209 in PVR and ₹199 in INOX which decreased to ₹207 and ₹196 respectively, in the second quarter.

However, according to the report, the net average ticket pricing is likely to be higher in FY21 and FY22.

Strong Net Box office Collection

While the ticket pricing trend has been flat the net box office collections saw positive growth in both Bollywood and Hollywood films. These collections have been rising since the third quarter of 017-18

In 2018, box office collections were at ₹786 billion (about ₹78600 crore) whereas in 2019 it was at ₹1030 billion. A part of the growth can be credited to the growing popularity of Hollywood content. Moreover, the growing number of multiplexes across urban areas in the country is targeting more people. The number of multiplexes rose from 1800 to 3,000 in the last five years.
