- The Wayans brothers are reuniting to work on a new "Scary Movie" sequel.
- It will be the sixth installment of the "Scary Movie" franchise.
"Scary Movie" is back, and fans want to know which films it will parody and if the original cast will return.
The first "Scary Movie," written by brothers Marlon and Shawn Wayans, was an instant hit when it was released in 2000. It pioneered the modern horror-comedy genre by parodying the beloved slasher "Scream," among other well-known movies including "Halloween," "The Blair Witch Project," and "The Shining."
Its success led to four sequels, and the franchise made $830 million worldwide, according to movie data site, thenumbers.com.
It's been over a decade since the last film, "Scary Movie 5," arrived in theaters in 2013, but on October 29, the Wayans brothers announced that they plan to revive the franchise with Miramax and Paramount.
Here's what we know about the next "Scary Movie."
Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Wayans are back for the next "Scary Movie."
Marlon and Shawn Wayans created the "Scary Movie" franchise in the late 1990s, and their brother, Keenen Wayans, directed it. All three brothers will work on the sequel.
They told Deadline: "We couldn't be more excited to be a part of the new 'Scary Movie' and work with each other again. This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago.
"We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again."
Jonathan Glickman, the head of Miramax, said: "We are thrilled to reunite Scary Movie with the Wayans brothers, the brilliant creators behind the beloved franchise. The timing is perfect to bring back the series to the big screen and we're lucky to have Keenen, Marlon, and Shawn's unique comedic vision bringing it to audiences around the world."
Filming for the new "Scary Movie" starts in 2025.
Little is known about the new "Scary Movie."
The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline both reported that filming will start in 2025, but a director has not been announced.
There are currently no actors attached to the project, but fans online have been vocal about wanting to see some of the cast from the first movie return.

Anna Faris played Cindy Campbell, a parody of the final girl, Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), in "Scream," and Regina Hall played Brenda Meeks, a parody of another "Scream" hero, Randy Meeks (Jamie Kennedy).
The two stars appeared in every "Scary Movie" aside from 2013's "Scary Movie 5."
Horror fans are also keen to know which films the new "Scary Movie" will parody, because the genre has greatly expanded in the decade since the last sequel.
If their doing a scary movie reboot.. what big horror movie/movies came out in the last decade that they could parody?? My guesses (wish) would be

So excited for Scary Movie 6 since finding out the Wayans Brothers are going to make it. I hope they parody the 'Scream' movies again and 'Terrifier' and 'Smile'.
