  • Gordon Ramsay and his wife, Tana, have a date-night rule that helps them keep their spark alive.
  • The rule is that they have to dress up for their dates, and no one's allowed to wear trainers.

Gordon Ramsay and his wife, Tana, don't let their schedules — or their six kids — get in the way of having quality time together.

During an episode of the "Happy Mum Happy Baby" podcast hosted by Giovanna Fletcher, Tana Ramsay opened up about family life and shared that she and her husband make it a point to have date nights where they dress up for the occasion.

"In our relationship, having little kids again, our present to each other on our last anniversary was, we have to go to the theater once a month, and we have to go out three times a month, and we're not allowed to wear trainers," she told host Giovanna Fletcher.

The TV broadcaster and cookbook author added she had gotten used to trainers and jeans during the pandemic.

"So we kind of dress up, you know. A nice dress, and I'll wear heels. He'll wear a suit or a shirt and proper shoes," Tana said. "Proper time together."

The couple, who has been married since 1996, has six children together: Megan, Holly, Jack, Tilly, Oscar, and Jesse, who was born in 2023.

Between juggling their careers and family, being able to spend quality time with each other is an important part of their relationship, Tana said.

"That's where we always have our best chats. We go out to dinner and we talk about ourselves, we talk about each other, we talk about the kids, but it's not just about the kids," she said. "And I think being older parents, we just kind of feel we're better at doing all of that."

In May, Gordon told People that he also places a lot of importance on his date nights with his wife.

"Date nights are crucial, whether it's the cinema, whether it's going out for a drive. We have a little time, but it's quality, and so that is really important," the celebrity chef said, adding that they prefer to go out on weeknights.

"Everyone thinks Monday is the most boring day. It's not," Gordon said. "With a young family, we are grabbing moments, and that date night moment is crucial."

The Ramsays aren't the only celebrity couple who've established rules to help keep their relationship strong.

Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey don't go more than two weeks without seeing each other and their family.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, who've been married since 2012, agreed not to work at the same time when they started dating so they could put their personal lives first.

Rob Lowe, who has been married to Sheryl Berkoff for 33 years, said he and his wife go to couples therapy regularly because "it's like taking your car in and making sure the engine's running great."

A representative for the Ramsays did not immediately respond to a request for comment sent outside regular business hours.
