On any given day Google receives trillions of searches, which it analyses through its algorithms to gauge audience’s interest and share trending topics. Now whether it’s to check reviews, controversies, star cast, or fan theories, movies are easily one of the most searched topics on Google. In 2022, these were the most searched movies on Google in India:

Brahmastra: Part One - Shiva

Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer fantasy drama topped the list, despite mixed reviews from the audience. Written and directed by Ayan Mukerji, the film raked in over ₹400 crore in worldwide collections and ranked sixth on the global list of most searched movies on Google in 2022.

KGF: Chapter 2

Starring Yash in the lead role, KGF: Chapter 2 is the sequel to the immensely popular action drama, KGF: Chapter 1 (released in 2018). Set in the 1970s, the film is based on the mining region Kolar Gold Fields in Karnataka. Though it ranked eighth on the global list, it was the second most searched film in India.

The Kashmir Files

Directed by Vivek Agnihotri and based on the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus from Kashmir in the 1990s, The Kashmir Files has courted multiple controversies since its release. Starring Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Mithun Chakraborty, and Darshan Kumar, among others, the film crossed ₹200 crore in collections from India alone.

RRR

After the immense success of Baahubali, all eyes were on Rajamouli’s RRR, starring Ram Charan, Jr. NTR and Alia Bhatt in lead roles. A domestic hit, the film also impressed the international audience who were awestruck by the action sequences. Recently, Rajamouli bagged the Best Director award for RRR at the New York Film Critics Circle.

Kantara

The Kannada-language action drama emerged as a surprise hit in 2022, raking in ₹79 crore in India - more than Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan or Ayushmann Khurrana’s Doctor G. The film stars writer-director Rishabh Shetty as the protagonist.

Pushpa: The Rise

The highest-grossing film of 2021, Pushpa remained the sixth most searched film in India, even in 2022. The Telugu-action drama starring Allu Arjun also served two of the most popular musical hits of the year - Oo Antava and Srivalli.

Vikram

Written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Vikram is Tamil-language action thriller starring three of the finest stars from the industry - Kamal Haasan, Fahadh Faasil and Vijay Sethupathi. Interestingly, like one of the highest grossing films of the year Top Gun: Maverick, Vikram too is a spiritual successor of the 1986 film of the same name.

Laal Singh Chaddha

The Indian remake of the 1994 hit drama Forrest Gump, Laal Singh Chaddha starred Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan in lead roles. Though the film failed at the Box Office, it found new fans after its release on Netflix.

Drishyam 2

Despite being a Hindi-language remake of the original (in Malayalam), Drishyam 2 managed to bring the audiences to the theatre, crossing the ₹100 crore in just a week of its release. While Tabu, Ajay Devgn and Shriya Saran reprised their roles from the original, Akshaye Khanna was a new addition to the cast.

Thor: Love and Thunder

The top most film on the global list of most searched movies, Thor: Love and Thunder ranked tenth on the India list. While actor Chris Hemsworth returned in the titular role, the Marvel drama also witnessed Christian Bale pull off yet another unbelievable transformation - as Gorr the God Butcher.
