As we approach International Women’s Day, Business Insider has curated a list of five short films that have narrated the many troubles of the fairer sex, with a layered and complicated narrative

Devi

Stars: Kajol, Neha Dhupia, Shruti Hassan
Women across walks of life, from different social and economic backgrounds, age and attitudes live together, and have a terrible secret to share. As they discuss their trauma, they realize that it connects them all. Their stories of abuse are similar than they appear, and the stories are told without too much gore, detail or tears making it a thoughtful watch with a spectacular ending.

Juice

Stars: Shefali Shah
On a hot Sunday, a bunch of women hustle and bustle in the kitchen to cook, clean for an all-male alcohol party. The woman of the house played by Shah who keep a steady stream of snacks rolling for her husband and the rest of the gang, who joke about their female boss - all the while expecting her to ensure that children stay off their party turf. What Shah does in the end would define the simple yet strong act of defiance.

Buying a pressure cooker may seem a tiny task but like most women in India Swati also struggles to buy one. The short film starring Pallavi Joshi is a story of a housewife who wanted to change the cooker she uses and her husband refuses to buy her one.

The Day after Everyday is the story of the daily lives of three girls who live in the same locality and decides to fight back against the odd behavior of men against women.

Naked

Stars: Kalki Koechlin
Naked directed by Anurag Kashyap is a grave reminder of how dark the world of Bollywood is for actresses. Sandy, a popular film star, wakes up to the news of her sex-scene from her movies leaking all over the internet. For the next few days, she has to struggle with bad press about her controversial career.
