One thing that was widely said about the uber-successful show
Peaky Blinders, excellently carried by
Cilian Murphy, was that it was extremely addictive. And when the show ended in 2022 after running for nearly 10 years, many did go into withdrawal. But we have some great news for fans of the franchise!
The iconic gangster saga is making its grand return to the screen in a new movie coming to
Netflix. Murphy, who won a Best Actor Oscar for his role in Oppenheimer, will be reprising his role as the ruthless
Tommy Shelby. The film will be directed by
Tom Harper, who helmed episodes of the show's very first season, bringing things full circle.
Creator
Steven Knight has penned the script and will also co-produce alongside Murphy. While plot details are still shrouded in secrecy, Knight promises an "explosive chapter" set in a time of war, hinting at a possible
World War II connection.
This isn't the first time whispers of a
Peaky Blinders movie have circulated. Fans have been eagerly awaiting news ever since the show's dramatic conclusion in 2022. Knight himself previously hinted at a movie set during World War II, and Murphy has expressed his own enthusiasm for returning to the role.
"It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn't finished with me," said Murphy. "This is one for the fans."
Production on the film is slated to begin later this year, with a release date yet to be announced. While details on additional casting are scarce, one thing is for sure: Peaky Blinders is back and ready to unleash its signature brand of gritty period crime drama on a global audience.
