The superstars of the ‘90s are nowhere close to hanging up their boots. A year after people questioned the existence of Bollywood itself, its biggies made a spectacular comeback, bringing people back to theaters.

King Khan’s Jawan

Shah Rukh Khan delivered a second superhit of the year, and the biggest grosser of 2023 with Jawan. The movie where he plans a vigilante collected ₹1,160 crore world, as per Sacnilk.com.

SRK’s Pathaan again

SRK kick-started the Bollywood box office of 2023 with this spy thriller that also stars Deepika Padukone. It’s the second biggest grosser of the year, and earned ₹1,055 crore.

Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2

The box office performance of Gadar 2 was so overwhelming that the otherwise media-shy Sunny Deol has become a media and social media star. It earned as much as ₹686 crore worldwide.

Ranbir’s Animal spirits

Ranbir Kapoor is the only lead actor in the list in his early 40s. His movie Animal which is panned by critics and feminists is running packed houses. As of December 12, his movie collected ₹660 crore worldwide – beating Rajnikanth’s movie.

Rajnikanth’s Jailer captivates

Rajnikanth plays a grandfather and a father, and also a retired jailer out for revenge. The potboiler brought in the moolah to the tune of ₹604.5 crore, proving that he has Basha-effect on the audience.

Tamil superstar Vijay’s movie, which was released in multiple languages, earned ₹604 worldwide. The action thriller directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj also stars Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt.

Tiger 3 abhi bhi zinda hai

Salman Khan’s spy-thriller franchise also starring Katrina Kaif and Emran Hashmi has made ₹463 crore worldwide.

The Kerala Story

Proving the point that small movies with no heroes have a pull is The Kerala Story, about a group of women coerced into joining ISIS. The movie collected ₹302 crore.
