Ford just updated its F-150 Raptor pickup to be even more bonkers

• The updated version of the high-performance off-roader gets improved shocks, racing-derived seats, and a special low-speed cruise-control feature.
• The new Ford F-150 Raptor pickup goes on sale later in 2018.

A lot of pickup truck enthusiasts share a common dream - to someday own a Ford F-150 Raptor, the most bonkers pickup in all the land.

Ford just made ownership a bit more compelling.

The 2019 version of the now-iconic truck - a member of the Ford Performance family of vehicles that includes GT supercar and the Shelby 350 and 350R Mustangs - is getting some interesting tweaks.

"Raptor's success is rooted in its incredible suspension, superb vehicle control and the confidence the truck instills in its owners," Hermann Salenbauch, Ford Performance's global director, said in a statement. "Upgrades to the 2019 F-150 Raptor have improved all three to new levels that the competition will have to benchmark - again."

The Raptor, which we sampled last year and richly enjoyed, is getting some new shocks from FOX, as well as specially designed Recaro seats, an interior treatment borrowed from the GT, and an innovative type of off-road cruise control for tackling tough, unpaved conditions.

"Trail Control helps F-150 Raptor drivers navigate challenging conditions. It's like cruise control for low-speed, rugged terrain, automatically adjusting power and braking to each individual wheel to allow drivers to focus on steering," Ford said. (The system can be switched on only when the Raptor is effectively crawling, from 1 mph to 20 mph.)

The 2019 Ford F-150 Raptor goes on sales later in 2018. The carmaker didn't detail pricing, but the current pickup starts at about $50,000.
