Looks like Goa government has decided to protect the environment of this popular tourist destination. The government has issued directives that all buses more than 15 years old, including those of state-run Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL), should be scrapped step by step.

Sunil Masurkar, Goa’s Director of Transport has issued the direction which mentions that 15-20 years old buses should be replaced by March 2021.

In the first phase, the older ones in the list, the 20-year-old buses should be replaced by March 31 next year, while those running for 18 years and above will have to be replaced by March 31, 2018, and those over 17 years old will be scrapped by 2019 March end.

Also, as per the state government's modified private bus subsidy scheme that was launched in 2012, which has enhanced subsidy for buses of various carrying capacities, only those buses with minimum 37 seating capacity would be eligible for it.
