Formatting message

We all type text is WhatsApp, but very few know how to format it for their special requirements. WhatsApp lets you use some formatting options like bold, italics and strike through on the text you type in. to do this, you have to introduce some special characters before and after the text that you wish to format as given here. For getting a bold text, use (*bold*); for italicizing the text, use an underscore (_italicize_); for striking through text, type the text with tildes (~strikethrough~). You will get the desired effects automatically on your text.

Starring the message

Starring the message you received on your WhatsApp account makes it convenient to get back a phone number, article or address at the time when you will need it. To ‘Star’ a message, long press on the message and then tap on the star icon. When you want to view the starred messages, select the Star tab on iOS which you will find along the bottom of your screen. If you are an Android user, you will have to tap on the Menu button and then go to Starred Messages.

Getting message details

If you wish to find out at what time a message was delivered or read, swipe on the message to the left and you will find the stats of the particular message on your iPhone. If you are an Android user, you need to long-press on the message and then tap on the ‘info’ icon you will find on top of your screen.

Muting a conversation

If you are attending a meeting or viewing a movie, you can use the mute feature of WhatsApp to make an individual contact or group silent when they do not get a hint that you are busy. If you are an Android phone user, you need to long press on a chat and tap on the crossed out speaker icon you find at the top of the screen. iPhone users have to open a conversation and then tap on the group or contact’s name found on top of the screen and then tap on mute. On WhatsApp, you have the option to mute a chat from 8 hours to 1 year.

Hiding your last seen status

If you do not want your random contacts or friends know when you saw WhatsApp last time, you need to Open Settings and the go to Account and then Privacy. Under this, select ‘Last Seen’ WhatsApp gives you three options: Everyone, My contacts and Nobody from which you can choose the appropriate one you want.
