A first for the Indian market, this is seen as a way of ramping up users rapidly while providing a push to smartphone sales, two executives aware of the plan told ET.

As per reports, a deal has been struck with Samsung and Reliance Jio may soon also get Apple in its list.

"Reliance Jio's launch will be phased and based on smartphones that have cleared all tests," one of the sources told ET.

With this, Reliance is aiming at increasing its user base.

Presently, the company has over 1.5 million subscribers, including customers of Lyf smartphones, employees and business partners including retailers.

Buyers of the bundled devices will be eligible for a SIM card that will allow them to access the Jio network immediately.

A senior executive at a leading south India-based cellphone retail chain told ET Jio's bundling scheme with Samsung has catalysed sales and have grown by 15-20 per cent since the launch last week.

According to a Morgan Stanley Research report, Reliance Jio is likely to have 30 million subscribers by the end of this fiscal year with revenue of over $1billion.

Also, Reliance is planning to make Lyf a brand independent of Jio's services.

"A decision has been taken to make the Lyf smartphones agnostic of the services, thereby opening up the three months' bundling scheme," one of the executives told ET.
