There are a few ways to back up the text messages on your iPhone.

How to backup iPhone text messages with iCloud

You can back up all sorts of data to iCloud, from pictures to contacts to messages, and once on the cloud, that data is safely stored and can be accessed any time.

1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.

2. Tap your name/image at the top of the screen.

3. On the next window, tap the iCloud tab.

4. Scroll down to Messages and toggle it on so the switch shows green.

Make sure that your Messages are syncing to iCloud.

Your texts will now be backed up to iCloud. Just make sure you have sufficient cloud space, and consider buying more if need be - it's cheap and worth it.

How to backup text messages by syncing an iPhone with a Mac

You can sync your iPhone and Macbook to both send and receive text messages from your phone number. This will ensure the messages won't be lost even if your phone is, as your Mac will keep a catalog of the messages you've sent and recieved after syncing.

1. On your Mac, hit the Launchpad app from the dock, then click the Messages app.

2. On the top left of the screen, click the word Messages, then select "Preferences…" from the dropdown menu.

3. Click the words iMessages with the '@' logo (it might read "Accounts" on older Macs).

4. If not already there, enter the email and phone number associated with the Apple ID connected to your iPhone (you will need to sign in first).

Log into your Apple ID account to sync your phone and Mac.

5. Now open your phone's Settings app and scroll down to Messages.

6. In the Messages window, tap the Text Message Forwarding tab and select the Mac to which you will allow forwarding.
