  • India defeated Hong Kong in Pool B of the Asian Games on Tuesday.
  • Their score of 26-0 set a new international record for the Indian hockey team.
  • India currently ranks 5th globally, whereas Hong Kong is 45th.
In a game against Hong Kong, India scored a massive win of 26-0 at the Asian games setting a new international record for itself. That being said, the game results were not too surprising since Hong Kong has a world ranking of 45 against India being 5th globally. The disparity is huge but the score shows they brought their top-game nonetheless.

The first goal was scored within the first two minutes of the match by Akashdeep Singh, immediately followed by another in the 3rd minute by Rupinder Pal Singh. The highest scorers of the game were Harmanpreet Singh and Lalit, bringing home 4 goals each.

India’s earlier record was against the United States during the 1993 Los Angeles Olympic Games with a score of 24-1. Internationally, the biggest win is held by New Zealand when they beat Samoa 36-1 in 1994.
