Maharashtra is likely to be put under lockdown from April 2 or April 3 for around 15 days, according to a report by Mid-Day. The state may release new standard operating procedures from April 1 to curb the spread of the novel Coronavirus. Districts like Pune, Mumbai, Thane are recording the highest number of cases in the state.

In an emergency meeting held on Sunday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray directed administrators to prepare for lockdown in the state. The government said it will take vigorous steps and stricter restrictions to be imposed to control the number of active cases.

However, the state government, seemingly, doesn’t want to hamper the economic stability of the state like the previous lockdown. Markets may operate under strict covid rules and regulations.

Public places like cinema halls, beaches, malls and auditoriums would remain shut to avoid public gatherings. Standalone shops will be given specific timings to operate. Eating joints and bars will likely be allowed to take home delivery or take-away orders only.

Public transport such as buses and local trains will be operated under strict guidelines issued by the government, the newspaper report said, quoting sources it did not name. Airports and Railway stations will intensify the testing procedure. Manufacturing sector will also have to maintain strict COVID-19 protocols to operate.
