After the Maharashtra government, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) decided to ‘stamp’ all those people who are under “home quarantine” on Coronavirus suspects.

The civic body will tag people with ink that would last for 14-days --- the duration of the isolation period.

The first initiative of stamping will begin at Ahmedabad and Surat airports and expand to the rest of the state, said JP Shivahare, health commissioner AMC.

“We are in the process of making the stamp and will begin the process of stamping home quarantine suspects on Friday. Of 469 people in-home quarantine, only 9 breached the isolation,” he added.

Not an unprecedented move

This decision came after nine people breached the home isolation in Ahmedabad and were caught by the authorities.

In a series of incidents in two days in Mumbai, a total of 17 people coming from various international locations were deboarded from different trains after they were detected with the ‘quarantine stamp’ on their back-palms.

“They were detected by alert Western Railway officials and the co-passengers. They were offloaded from the train and were handed over to a medical team,” said the Western Railway official.
