AirAsia India plans to launch door-to-door baggage service in Mumbai after receiving an overwhelming response from the industry’s first, the door to door baggage delivery service in Bengaluru, New Delhi and Hyderabad.

The company said the service starts at an introductory price of ₹500 for one-way delivery to or from the airport within the city limits(within 60kms from the respective airport).

This means, if the passenger wants end-to-end service, where baggage is taken from home and then delivered to the address in the destination city, he or she will have to shell out ₹1,000.

Could be another move to break COVID taboo

Airlines in India are still struggling to turn around since March-end when the government grounded all airlines to contain the virus. Airlines have been a victim of COVID taboo where people are avoiding non-essential travelling due to the fear of coming in contact with other people.

This move of AirAsia may help passengers to avoid at least coming in with the check-in staff and other people standing in the queue.

In order to ensure the social distancing protocols are followed during the pandemic, the airline said that all bags would be disinfected thoroughly along with delivery vehicles at the warehouse. After disinfecting the bags will be packed in double-layered packing materials to ensure safety. The company said it would also ensure executives are screened regularly and using adequate Personal Protective Equipment.
