The farmers from Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), who have been protesting for almost an year now against the three farm laws, called a nationwide 10-hour strike called ‘Bharat Bandh’ from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on September 27.

Today’s Bharat Bandh is reportedly said to be a major one as it marks the one year of President Ram Nath Kovind’s assent for the three farm laws.

In the last ten months, the protesting farmers have called out for several chakka jams (strike), and bharat bandhs before also to keep up the ongoing protest.

Meanwhile, Delhi and Haryana police have issued advisory notices in view of the protest by farmers. Haryana police said in a statement that several arrangements have been made according to the state government. The police also warned the public that they could face heavy traffic jams and disruptions today on various roads and highways.

Delhi police has also intensified its patrolling and has deployed extra personnel in border areas, especially in Delhi. One of the police officials said that no protestor will be allowed to enter the city from three protest sites at the city’s border, as per media reports.

These things will remain closed today —

All central and state government offices, factories, schools, colleges and other educational institutions will not function. No public and private transport facilities will be allowed to ply on road. No public functions will be allowed to be conducted, as per the protestors.

Banks under All India Bank Officers Confederation (AIBOC) affiliates will also remain closed today as they decided to stand in solidarity with the protesting farmers.

These things will remain open —

Markets, shops will remain open as the traders and shopkeepers are not part of the protest. Also, in states where the state government is supporting the ongoing protest, the impact is likely to be intense as compared to other states.

All emergency and essential services including medical stores, hospitals,relief and rescue work will be operating in the states with full capacity.
