The ongoing protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act turned violent in several parts of New Delhi on Monday (Feb 24). This was even as the US president Donald Trump was praising India’s rise as an economic power, Twitter was buzzing with hundreds of photos and videos of protestors who were pelting stones and burning buses. This is the second violent protest in Delhi in less than 24 hours.

According to media reports, at least five people were killed including a cop and over a 100 others were injured.

The violence was reportedly triggered by a clash between two sets of people— one protesting against the new citizenship law and the other campaigning in support of the legislation that has already been passed by the Parliament. Since Sunday (Feb 23), the pro-CAA groups had assembled at Maujpur metro station while the anti-CAA protesters settled down about a kilometer Km away, at Jafrabad metro station.
