C'garh: 68 new COVID-19 cases push count to 361

Raipur, May 26 () The number of coronavirus cases in Chhattisgarh went up by 68, the highest single-day rise since mid-March, to 361 on Tuesday, a Health official said.

Most of the new patients are either migrant labourers who have recently returned to their home districts from different parts of the country or those who came in their contact, he said.

In the last five days, 229 new cases were detected in the state.

"The state's COVID-19 count is now 361 though the number of active cases stood at 282 after discharge of 79 people", Dr Akhilesh Tripathi of State Control and Command Centre (COVID-19) told .

"On Tuesday, 27 new cases were reported from Mungeli district, 13 from Bemetara district, 12 from Rajnandgaon, six from Balod district, four from Kanker district while two each from Bilaspur and Jashpur districts," he said.

Besides, one each case was reported from Balrampur and Surajpur districts, he added.

Earlier in the day, six patients were discharged from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Raipur and another from Covid Hospital Bilaspur following their recovery, he said.

At present, 1,86,566 people have been kept in 19,076 quarantine centres in the state while 48,141 people are in home quarantine, he said.

Of the new cases in Rajnandgaon, nine were migrant workers who recently returned to their native villages from other states, said Dr Mithlesh Chaudhary, Rajnandgaon Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO).

Three others have contracted the infection from the driver of a deputy collector in the district.

The driver was tested positive for coronavirus on May 20, the CMHO said.
