Coronavirus cases in India climb to 31,332— but a 45-day-old baby recovers

The total number of Covid-19 cases in the country climbed to 33,050 on Thursday (April 30), according to the Union Health Ministry data. Of the total cases, 23,651 are active, 8,325 people have recovered, and 1074 people have succumbed to the disease.

Maharashtra remained the worst-hit state with the total number of cases rising to 9,915, with 432 deaths and 1,593 people recovering from the deadly virus. Gujarat was the next which has reported 4,082 cases so far followed by Delhi, which has reported 3,439 cases, according to the Health Ministry data.

The other states which have seen a sharp rise in cases are Madhya Pradesh (2,561), Rajasthan (2,438), Tamil Nadu (2,162) and Uttar Pradesh (2,134).

States which have reported less than 10 cases are Tripura, Mizoram, Puducherry, Manipur, Goa and Arunachal Pradesh.

37 new COVID-19 cases in Bihar, 403 under treatment

Thirty-seven more people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Bihar, taking the total number of patients undergoing treatment in the state to 403, officials said.

Bihar Health Department Principal Secretary Sanjay Kumar on Wednesday said of those found positive for the dreaded virus include three from Patna, three from Rohtas, 14 from Buxar, two each from Begusarai and Bhojpur, four from Darbhanga, five from West Champaran and one each from Aurangabad, Vaishali, Madhepura and Sitamarhi.

Those found positive on Wednesday in Buxar also include a six-month-old and one-year-old girl. So far, more than 21,468 samples have been tested in the state. A total of 64 people have been discharged from hospitals after treatment.

In Bihar, Munger district has reported the maximum 92 cases out of 29 districts affected by the Coronavirus outbreak, while 42 cases have been reported in Patna, 35 in Nalanda, 34 in Rohtas and 30 in Siwan.

Delhi govt distributes 'Corona Rahat Kits' along with ration

The Delhi government on Wednesday started the distribution of 'Mukhyamantri Corona Rahat Kits' along with the ration for May.

From Wednesday, the ration for May month is being distributed by the Delhi government.

The kits comprise 1 kg refined oil, 1 kg chole chana, 1 kg Sugar, 1 kg Salt, 200gm haldi powder, 200 gm chilli powder, 200gm coriander Powder and two soaps, the Food Department said in a statement.

Two deaths, 125 new Covid cases in Delhi

With 125 new cases reported in the last 24 hours, the total coronavirus cases in the national capital reached 3,439 on Wednesday with toll mounting to 56 with two more deaths.

A total of 14 patients have recovered on Wednesday, according to the Delhi Health Bulletin.

"At least 1,092 patients have recovered from coronavirus so far in Delhi while 2,291 cases are active," the Health Department said.

The Covid toll in Delhi has jumped to 56 with two new deaths.

India's youngest corona patient recovers in Telangana

A 45-day-old baby boy said to be India's youngest Covid-19 patient has recovered from the disease and was discharged from a hospital here on Wednesday.

Officials clarified that the infant was just 20-day-old when he contracted the infection from his father and was admitted to state-run Gandhi hospital here. After undergoing treatment for 25 days, the baby boy from Mahabubnagar district was discharged on Wednesday.

"He is probably the youngest person in the country to have contacted the infection and recovered successfully," the health department said.

Carrying the baby in her arms, the mother was seen walking out of the hospital with a smile. The hospital staff gave warm send-off to the youngest Covid-19 patient and 12 other children who were also discharged with him.

The 13 children were among 32 patients discharged in Telangana on Wednesday while the state recorded only seven new cases.

26 COVID-19 deaths in Mumbai, 475 new cases, tally 6,457

Twenty-six coronavirus patients — highest in a day — died in Mumbai and 475 tested positive for the infection on Wednesday, said the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Those who died on Wednesday included a BMC official, which led to unions demanding that all corporation employees be tested for coronavirus.

It took the death toll in the country's financial capital to 270, and the tally of patients jumped to 6,457 crossing the 6,000-mark. A BMC release said that 377 new suspected patients were admitted at various hospitals and 193 recovered patients were discharged.

Till now, 1,427 patients have been discharged from hospitals on recovery. 108 of them were not city residents but were treated here, the BMC said. Of the 26 COVID-19 patients who died in the city on Wednesday, 16 patients had comorbidities, said the BMC.

21 of them were male and five female. Thirteen of the deceased were above 60 years old, 12 were between 40 to 60 years old, and one was above 80 years old.

COVID-19 cases reported to WHO exceed 3 million worldwide

The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) has exceeded 3 million worldwide, according to the latest statistics from the WHO on Wednesday.

The WHO COVID-19 dashboard showed that globally a total of 3,024,059 confirmed cases, including 208,112 deaths, have been reported to the organization.

The US has reported 983,457 confirmed cases, with 50,492 deaths to the UN health agency, making it the hardest-hit country.

In Spain and Italy, the second and third worst-hit countries in terms of the number of infections, there have been 210,773 and 201,505 cases, respectively. The death numbers in the two countries are 23,822 and 27,359, respectively.

They are followed by the United Kingdom, with 161,149 confirmed cases, and Germany, with 157,641 confirmed cases.
