Coronavirus cases in Madhya Pradesh rises to 572

With 40 more persons testing positive for coronavirus in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the state climbed to 572, Health department officials said.

Simultaneously, four more persons have died in the state, taking the COVID-19 death toll to 44, they said. Two deceased each hailed from Indore and Bhopal.

All the four tested positive for the novel coronavirus infection after their deaths, the officials said. Of the total 572 coronavirus positive cases, Indore has reported the highest number of 306 cases, with 25 new additions on Sunday, they said. Meanwhile, Bhopal recorded eight more COVID-19 cases, taking the number of the affected people in the state Capital to 139.

On Sunday, Satna district reported two cases. Satna Collector Ajay Katesaria has said that two prisoners, arrested under the National Security Act (NSA) in Indore and shifted here, have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.


With cases of infection being reported from two more districts of the state Khandwa and Raisen - on Wednesday, the pandemic has covered 16 districts of the state so far. Apart from Indore and Bhopal, Morena district has recorded 13 cases, Jabalpur nine, Ujjain 15, Khargone 12, Barwani 12, Gwalior six, Chhindwara and Shivpuri two each and Betul, Sheopur, Hoshangabad, Vidisha, Raisen (new district) and Khandwa (new district) recording one case each. One patient hails from other state. One patient hails from other state.

So far, 25 persons have been discharged from hospitals after their recovery, the officials said. The condition of 264 patients is stable, while 26 patients were said to be in a serious condition.

In the past one week, two IAS officers posted in the state's health department have tested positive for coronavirus.

Besides, about 45 health workers, including doctors, 12 police personnel and their family members, have tested positive in Bhopal.

Meanwhile, the authorities on Wednesday sealed Indore, Bhopal and Ujjain districts to control the spread of coronavirus, officials said.

April 8: With 57 fresh cases reported in the state, the number of coronavirus cases in Madhya Pradesh rose to 313 on Tuesday. Twenty-four cases were reported in Bhopal, taking the number of COVID-19 patients in the city to 85, a health official said.

Of the 313 cases, 173 are from Indore, the commercial capital of the state. Since Monday night, 22 new cases and two deaths were reported in Indore.

The death toll due to coronavirus in the state now stands at 23, said health officials. Among others, 40 health workers including doctors and 12 policemen and their family members have contracted the virus in the state capital.

With cases of infection being reported from two more districts of the state on Monday, the pandemic has covered 14 districts of the state so far.

Apart from Indore and Bhopal, Morena district has recorded 12 cases, Jabalpur eight, Ujjain 13, Khargone four, Gwalior six, Barwani three, Chhindwara and Shivpuri two each and Betul, Hoshangabad and Vidisha recording one case each.

One patient hails from outside the state. A doctor tested positive in Itarsi town of Hoshangabad district, collector Dhananjay Singh said.

Twenty-one persons have been discharged from hospitals after full recovery. The condition of 228 patients is stable while 20 patients were said to be in serioud condition. In the past one week, two IAS officers posted in the state's health department have tested positive for coronavirus.

April 7, 9am: .Madhya Pradesh reports 4 more deaths due to coronavirus

Four more persons succumbed to the dreaded coronavirus in the city, taking the toll to 18 in Madhya Pradesh on Monday, a health official said.

Three men and a woman have died in the last five days in different hospitals in Indore and their test reports received on Monday revealed they were infected with COVID-19, an official of government-MGM medical college said.

Indore alone now accounts for 13 deaths.

These patients were already suffering from asthma, diabetes, high BP and other ailments before getting infected with COVID-19, he said.

A health bulletin said so far 256 persons in the state have tested positive for COVID-19 and 151 of them are from Indore.

Of the 18 COVID-19 deaths, 13 have been reported from Indore, followed by two from Ujjain and one each from Khargone, Chhindwara and Bhopal
April 6: A 52-year-old man died of coronavirus in Bhopal, taking the toll in Madhya Pradesh to 14, an official said on Monday.


This is the first death of a COVID-19 patient in the state capital, he said.The man recently tested positive for coronavirus and died at a private hospital where he was undergoing treatment on Sunday night, Bhopal Collector Tarun Pithode said.


He worked as a watchman at a wholesale vegetable market and was suffering from asthma since long, Dr Rajesh Sharma from the private hospital said.


So far, 14 people have succumbed to the viral disease in the state, including nine in Indore, two in Ujjain and one each in Bhopal, Khargone and Chhindwara, an official said.


April 5: 36 new cases in Madhya Pradesh


Madhya Pradesh on Sunday reported 36 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the tally in the state so far to 215, officials said. Simultaneously, the number of deaths caused by coronavirus infection rose to 13 with two persons succumbing to the deadly virus. Among cities, the state capital led the chart by recording the highest number of 23 new cases in the last 24 hours, which took its tally to 40 so far. Of the total 215 cases, 135 are from Indore, the commercial capital of the state.

"The death toll due to coronavirus in the state now stands at 13 with two more persons succumbing to the virus," the state health bulletin said.


Meanwhile, some officials of Health department involved in operations to check the spread of the virus tested positive in Bhopal on Sunday, said officials. In the last one week, two IAS officers posted in Health department, including a principal secretary-level officer, have tested positive to coronavirus.

As per the health bulletin, the maximum number of 135 COVID-19 cases were reported from Indore, followed by Bhopal (40), Morena (12), Jabalpur (8), Ujjain (7), Khargone (4), Barwani (3) and two each in Chhindwara, Shivpuri and Gwalior taking the total number of affected persons in the state to 215.

While the state health bulletin said that COVID-19 positive cases in Bhopal stands at 18, the Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Sudhir Deharia said that number of coronavirus positive cases in the state capital have gone up to 40 with 23 more positive cases on Sunday.

As many as 168 patients are stable while three persons are in a serious condition, it said.

Meanwhile, four more coronavirus infected persons, including three in Jabalpur and one in Shivpuri, have recovered and discharged from the hospital, officials said.


Jabalpur district collector Bharat Yadav said that three such patients being treated at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College Hospital have recovered and discharged on Sunday. Now, they are placed under home quarantine for another fourteen days.

They were the first three coronavirus positive cases of Madhya Pradesh recorded on March 20.

April 3: In Bhopal, four members of "Jamaat", three of them foreign nationals, tested positive for the coronavirus here on April 2, taking the tally in Madhya Pradesh to 111, officials said here.

All four are believed to have attended a religious gathering in Delhi's Nizamuddin area last month.

They were staying in two mosques of the city, a senior official said. However, it was not clear if they belonged to Tablighi Jamaat, the organisation which is in news after its mega congregation in Delhi last month turned out to be a hotspot for the spread of coronavirus in the country.

A large number of "Jamaat members" arrived in Bhopal recently and samples of 65 of them were sent for tests, Bhopal collector Tarun Pithode said in a statement. The samples of four -- three foreign nationals and an Odisha resident -- tested positive for the viral infection, he said.

Among the three foreign nationals, two are from Myanmar and one from Ivory Coast, all of them living in Rahmaniya mosque in the Aishbagh area, a public relations department official said. The fourth patient, a resident of Bhubaneswar, was staying in Ahata Rustam Khan Masjid in the Shyamla Hills area, the official said.

All four were quarantined at the Chirayu Medical College and Hospital here, he added. The official said these four 'Jamaat' members were staying in Bhopal since the first week of March and were asymptomatic to the coronavirus and their samples were taken as a precaution.

They came to Bhopal in the first week of March from Delhi. They are living here since then. "We came to know that they visited Tablighi Jamaat Markaz(centre) in Delhi and further details about their travel history are being sought, said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity.

Famed for the shrine of the 14h century Sufi mystic Khwaja Nizamuddin Auliya, the south Delhi locality has emerged as an epicentre for spread of the coronavirus in different parts of the country after thousands of people took part in a Tablighi Jamaat congregation there from March 1-15.

Meanwhile, the district administration has declared areas falling within 1 km radius of both the mosques as containment zones. People living in these zones would be screened and those who came in contact with the four COVID-19 patients will be quarantined, officials said.

Out of the total 111 coronavirus cases in the state, 82 have been reported from Indore, eight each from Jabalpur and Bhopal, six from Ujjain, two each in Morena, Shivpuri and Gwalior and one from Khargone, a health department official said.

Eight patients have so far died in the state - five from Indore, two from Ujjain and one from Khargone - the official added.

March 31: Indore has the highest number of coronavirus cases in MP

On Monday, a 49-year-old woman died of coronavirus in Indore, taking the total number of deaths in MP due to COVID-19 to five, which included three in Indore and two in Ujjain. The deceased from Indore and Ujjain had no travel history or contact with overseas persons.

A three-day total lockdown is being enforced stringently in Indore and Bhopal since Tuesday. The borders with Maharashtra have been sealed, leaving hundreds of people trapped there.

Asking authorities to quarantine Tablighi Jamaat participants, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan told senior officials on Tuesday to track the 107 participants of the Tablighi Marqaz congregation at Nizamuddin recently from MP and get them quarantined.

"They should be provided all healthcare," he said. Travel details of all those travelling for religious reasons should be obtained and their health be monitored, he added.

On March 30, Madhya Pradesh reports third death due to coronavirus

Samples of a 38-year-old man who died in Ujjain three days ago came out positive for coronavirus on Monday, an official said. With this, the death toll due to coronavirus has gone up to three in Madhya Pradesh.Earlier, a 65-year-old man from Indore and a woman from Ujjain died of coronavirus here.

"We got a report from a lab of Indore-based Government Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College on Monday morning that the 38-year-old man had coronavirus infection," Ujjain's Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr Anusuiya Gawli told PTI.

The man died on March 27 night. He was admitted to Madhav Nagar Hospital of Ujjain in a critical condition and died after an hour of undergoing treatment.

"According to doctors, the man had high blood pressure and complained of chest pain and discomfort during admission to the hospital. At first glance, he looked like a heart patient," Gawli said.

The deceased was a resident of Amber Colony in Ujjain, the state public relations department said in a release. His blood and swab samples were sent for testing as he had virus-like symptoms. He visited the state's Neemuch district, located close to border adjoining Rajasthan, five days before he fell ill. He came in contact with some people of Rajasthan at a party there. After his return to Ujjain, he was down with fever, cold and cough, the release said. A survey was underway in Amber locality to check the spread of the viral infection, it added.

Earlier in the morning, the authorities confirmed eight new coronavirus cases in the state, taking the total number to 47. So far, Indore has reported the maximum 27 cases, followed by Jabalpur- eight, Ujjain-five, Bhopal-three, and Shivpuri and Gwalior- two each.

As of now, 44 active cases are being treated in different districts.

March 30 : After reporting 24 coronavirus cases in MP, Indore closes everything including grocery stores till April 1

Local authorities have decided to shut everything Indore including essential services after it reported 24 coronavirus cases. People cannot go to grocery stores or avail home delivery till April 1. This comes after several social institutions were distributing food and other things even after PM Modi announced a nationwide lockdown. Indore might be staring at community transmission.

Madhya Pradesh had 47 coronavirus cases until March 30. Eight new COVID-19 cases have been found in Madhya Pradesh, taking the total number of coronavirus patients in the state to 47, a senior health official said on Monday.

So far, 27 coronavirus cases have been found in Indore, eight in Jabalpur, five in Ujjain, three in Bhopal and two each in Shivpuri and Gwalior, the official said.

Out of these, 45 patients are admitted in different hospitals of the state, while two persons - a man from Indore and a woman from Ujjain- earlier died while undergoing treatment here.

March 29: MP reports five new cases

The number of COVID-19 cases in Madhya Pradesh rose to 39 on Sunday morning with five more persons testing positive for coronavirus, officials said. The five new patients include a 17-year-girl from Ujjain and four men - aged 21, 38, 40 and 48 all residents of Indore, a bulletin issued by the Government Mahatma Gandhi Medical College here said.

The girl is undergoing treated at a hospital in Ujjain while the four men were being provided medical care in Indore. These patients do not have any foreign travel history, the bulletin said. So far, 20 COVID-19 cases have been reported in Indore, eight in Jabalpur, four in Ujjain, three in Bhopal, and two each in Shivpuri and Gwalior, a health official said. Of these 39 patients, a woman from Ujjain and a man from Indore earlier died.

March 29: MP govt to promote students sans exams

The Madhya Pradesh government has decided to promote students of all classes, except standards 10th and 12th, of the state schools without exams in view of the coronavirus outbreak, an official said on Sunday. The 10th and 12th board exams are carried forward, an official spokesman said.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday night reviewed measures to tackle the coronavirus pandemic and decided to promote students of all classes of the state schools, except 10th and 12th board, he said.

"The 10th and 12th board examinations will be carried forward and general promotions will be given to students of all other classes," the official said.

After the Bhopal gas tragedy in 1984, the then state government had also given general promotion to students of all classes, except those appearing for the board exams. Meanwhile, Chouhan has also decided to provide ration free of cost to the poor, irrespective of whether they have ration cards or not, for the next three months.

On March 28, Coronavirus cases in MP increased to 33

The number of coronavirus cases in Madhya Pradesh increased to 33 on Friday, with seven persons, including a railway guard, testing positive, a health official said.

A 50-year-old man, a railway guard, tested positive at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhopal.

"He had been referred to the AIIMS by Railway hospital," said a health department official. The man had traveled to Jhansi rencenly, he added.

In Jabalpur, two persons who worked at the shop of a businessman who had returned from Dubai tested positive.The businessman and his family members were the first coronavirus cases in the state.

Meanwhile, the Bhopal district administration said that area in one-km radius from the residence of coronavirus patients would considered as a "containment area".


On March 27, Coronavirus cases in MP rises to 27 with ten new cases in Indore

The number of coronavirus cases in Madhya Pradesh rose to 27 on Thursday.

The death toll of COVID patients in the state also increased to two, with a man who had died in Indore on Wednesdsay testing positive for the disease. So far, 15 coronavirus cases have been reported in Indore, six in Jabalpur, two each in Bhopal and Shivpuri and one each in Gwalior and Ujjain, a senior health department official said.

Ten new cases were found in Indore. A 26-year old man, who had returned from Hyderabad on March 15, tested tested positive in Shivpuri district.

March 26: Coronavirus cases count in Indore rises to 15, death toll two

The number of coronavirus cases in Madhya Pradesh's Indore rose to 15 by Thursday night. During the day, ten more cases were detected in the city, health officials said.

It included a 65-year-old man who had died on Wednesday. His test reports came out on Thursday.

"This man was admitted with the symptoms of swine flu in a government hospital," said an official of the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Medical College.

Indore chief medical and health officer (CMHO) Dr Praveen Jadiya said that the 65-year-old man was the first victim of coronavirus from Indore. He also informed that the deceased was also suffering from high blood pressure and other ailments. Earlier, a 65-year-old Ujjain-resident woman died of coronavirus in the government-run MY hospital here on Wednesday, which was the first death of COVID-19 patient in the state.

On March 25, Madhya Pradesh reported five coronavirus cases taking the toll

Madhya Pradesh rose to 20 with five more patients in Indore hospitals testing coronavirus positive, health officials told PTI on March 26. .The tally includes a Ujjain-based woman, who died on Wednesday in Indore, the officials said.

Among the five new cases in Indore, two are women, a government medical college spokesman said. Curfew has been imposed in seven districts linked to coronavirus positive cases. They include Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Shivpuri, Ujjain and Chhatarpur. No positive case was found in Chhatarpur but the patient found in Gwalior had a travel history of Khajuraho in Chhatarpur, they said.

As a result, curfew was clamped in Rajnagar and Khajuraho towns of Chhatarpur district.

There has been a sudden spurt in the number of positive cases in the state with the virus striking India's cleanest city, Indore, on March 25. With four positive cases being reported from Indore and one from Ujjain, the number of Covid-19 cases has risen 15. State capital Bhopal also reported a positive case on March 25

On Tuesday (March 24), two men had tested positive for coronavirus in Gwalior and Shivpuri districts, an official said. Earlier, six Covid-19 cases were reported from Jabalpur, while a woman was found positive for the viral infection in Bhopal on Sunday.



MP CM announces ₹1,000 aid for workers in unorganised sector

Amid the ongoing lockdown to contain the coronavirus epidemic, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday announced an aid of Rs 1,000 for labourers in the unorganised sector. He also announced that beneficiaries of social security pension scheme, widow pension, old-age pension and destitute pension schemes will get two months' pension in advance.

Labourers in the unorganized sector will be given financial assistance of Rs 1,000 each through the Sannirman Karmkar Mandal, said Chouhan who took over as chief minister two days ago.

Further, an advance of Rs 2,000 per family would be provided to members of the Shariya, Baiga and Bhariya tribal communities, he said. As schools are closed, some 65.91 lakh students do not get mid-day meals at school.

Therefore, ₹155 would be transferred into bank account of each primary schools student.

Journalist who attended Kamal Nath’s resignation tests positive

In a freak chain of events a journalist who had attended former Chief Minister Kamal Nath's press meet last Friday and then received his daughter returning from England tested positive on March 21.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Sudhir Kumar Dehria said everyone who contacted the journalist is required to remain in home isolation for 14 days. Samples of 10 persons who met the girl or were sent for examination. Out of them, 9 people tested negative while the report of his mother, brother, people working at home has come negative. Only the journalist tested positive and was admitted to AIIMS Bhopal. Dr Dehria said there was no need to panic.

Indore and Ujjain cases were confirmed at 4.00 a.m. on Wednesday. Three of these patients are admitted to Bombay Hospital, one to Arihant Hospital and one to MY Hospital. Three patients belong to one family who had visited Rishikesh a week ago. The contact history of the others is being traced. Collector Lokesh Kumar Jatav of Indore has imposed curfew in the town.

On Tuesday two men tested positive for coronavirus in Gwalior and Shivpuri districts, an official said. Earlier, six COVID-19 cases were reported from Jabalpur, while a woman was found positive for the viral infection in Bhopal on Sunday.


BMHRC turned into state-level COVID-19 treatment institute
In order to provide better treatment to patients infected with coronavirus, the Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC) in Madhya Pradesh has been turned into a state-level COVID-19 treatment institute.

Principal Secretary of Health Department Pallavi Jain Govil issued an order on Monday night stating that the novel coronavirus disease has been declared an infectious disease in the state under Section 51 of the Madhya Pradesh Public Health Act, 1949.

The BMHRC is a super specialty health institute. It has been marked as a state level COVID-19 treatment institute and patients suffering from coronavirus will only be treated at this hospital, the order said.

The BMHRC was opened in 1998 to give free care to the survivors of the Bhopal gas tragedy.
