As a preventive measure for the quickly spreading Coronavirus in India, the Delhi Metro and Rail Corporation pushed out an advisory for all the passengers travelling with DMRC, on March 19.

The current number of infected patients in India stands at 173 after 20 people cured, and four died of this pandemic.

For essential travel only

The advisory said that commuters should only travel in Metro when it is “essential and unavoidable”.

The advisory requested passengers to maintain at least 1-metre distance from each other while travelling in the Metro or at the station. It also said that “standing passengers not allowed and alternate seats to be left vacant” in the Metro.

Thermal scanning

The authorities said that the random thermal scanning of passengers would be conducted at all metro stations and any passenger suffering from fever or observed to have any Coronavirus symptoms will be referred for medical tests and quarantine to the authorities.

Skipping of stations and reduced number of trains

The DMRC advisory said that the “trains might not stop at stations which may be crowding, i.e. less than the expected distance of 1 metre between the passengers.” It also said “depending on the exigencies of the situation” the number of trains can be altered.

DMRC called out for the support of passengers and said, “Let us all resolve to deal with this global crisis with patience and co-operate with the authorities to mitigate its spread.”

It also requested passengers to follow the Ministry of Health and Welfare advisory, when at metro premises or the course of the journey to contain the virus.
