It is day seven of a 21-day lockdown here in India. As the country entered the critical phase of community spread of the Coronavirus pandemic, the Ministry of Health data shows that the number of infected people increasingly crossed 1300 mark. In the last 24 hours, as many as 12 people died.

The current number of infected people stands at 1,385 after 102 were cured and 32 died.

Telangana government cut salaries up to 75% of state employees

The Telangana government, on Monday (March 30), tightened its purse strings. With economic activity and revenue coming to a standstill and the government having to initiate humanitarian measures due to the lockdown, they are looking for ways to control costs.

Following a review meeting, where the state's financial situation was discussed, the state government led by chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said that salary for all government servants of the state will be slashed.

As per the note issued by the chief minister's office, the salary cut will vary according to the grade and service cadres. The highest cut of 75% will be imposed on salaries of the chief minister, state cabinet, MLCs, MLAs, state corporation chairpersons, and representatives of local bodies.

UP sounds a high alert in 18 districts

Eighteen districts in Uttar Pradesh have been put on high alert after reports that people from these districts attended the Tablighi Jamaat, a religious congregation of about 2000 people in Nizamuddin in Delhi from March 13 to 15.

According to SP Crime, Ajay Shankar Rai, the police chiefs in these districts have been asked to identify and track those who attended the meeting in Delhi and get their medical screening done. They have been asked to submit the reports by Tuesday (March 31) evening.

The alert has been sounded in Ghaziabad, Meerut, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Hapur, Bijnor, Baghpat, Varanasi, Bhadohi, Mathura, Agra, Sitapur, Barabanki, Prayagraj, Bahraich, Gonda and Balrampur.

Second COVID-19 victim dies in Kerala

Kerala registered its second COVID-19 death on Tuesday (March 31) morning when 68-year-old former Kerala Police official Abdul Azeez passed away at the Medical College hospital here, said health officials.

He was a resident of Pothencode about 20 km from the capital city. What has baffled the authorities is they have not been able to identify from where he got the infection, as he neither had a foreign travel history or had any contact with any positive patient.

Local councillor Balamurali said that Azeez sought medical treatment from a state-run medical centre near his home on March 18.

Six dead in Telangana points to Tablighi Jamaat meet in Delhi

Alarm bells began to ring loud late on Monday (March 30) night, with a cryptic tweet by Telangana Chief Minister's Office announcing the death of six people due to COVID-19.

After it emerged that all six of the COVID-19 fatalities in Telangana had attended a religious congregation at Nizamuddin in the national capital, the state intensified efforts to locate all those who returned from the event and trace their contact trail.

The tweet from the Telangana CMO stated, "Six people from Telangana who attended a religious congregation at Markaz in Nizamuddin area of New Delhi from 13-15 March succumbed after they contracted coronavirus. Two died in Gandhi Hospital while one each died in Apollo Hospital, Global Hospital, Nizamabad and Gadwal."

Another COVID-19 patient dies in Bengal, death count 3

A man infected with the coronavirus died at a hospital in West Bengals Howrah district, taking the total number of COVID-19 deaths to three in the state, a health department official said on Tuesday.

The man recently travelled to the northern part of the state, he said.

"The person died on Monday (March 30) night before test results came. His test results confirmed that he was infected with the coronavirus," the official said.

There were four new cases of coronavirus reported in West Bengal, taking the total number to 26 in the state, he added.

Jaipur sees steep hike with ten new patients; Rajasthan’s total at 79

Recording a steep hike, Jaipur on Monday (March 30) recorded ten new positive coronavirus cases. It left officials worried that the state capital with total infections at 20, is turning into another epicentre after Bhilwara which has 26 infected.

Overall, 13 new cases were reported on Monday (March 30) including the 10 in Jaipur, one case each in Alwar and Jodhpur and another in Bhilwara taking the state's total to 72. However, with seven evacuees from Iran, who landed at Jodhpur, testing positive, the total count in the state is 79, said health officials here.

Kolkata woman arrested for fake WhatsApp post about Covid-19

A woman has been arrested here for disseminating "fake news" on coronavirus infection through WhatsApp.

Pallavi Shivani, a housewife, was taken into custody from her house in the Behala area in south Kolkata for allegedly posting on a school WhatsApp group that 15 persons have been detected with coronavirus infection in New Alipore, of whom two were her neighbours.

As the post became viral, the police began an enquiry and identified Shivani.

Shivani has told interrogators that she posted the message "playfully" and had no idea the matter would go this far.
