The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rain in Bengaluru and issued a yellow alert for 10 districts of Karnataka on Tuesday. The districts are Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Raichur, Koppal, Gadag, Belagavi, Ballary, Chitradurga, Chikkamagaluru and Chikkaballapur.

The IMD has also forecast that heavy downpour is likely to continue in Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema and Telangana for the next five days.

Cyclonic depression that led to heavy rains in parts of TN earlier this month has severely affected the harvesting of paddy. Districts like Erode, Namakkal, Thanjavur, Salem and Thiruvannamalai, where this crop is harvested, witnessed the most rains.

The IMD has also predicted that heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar is likely to continue for another 24 hours.

Flooding in UP has resulted in around 11 deaths and affected more than 900 people in 17 districts. As heavy rainfall and flooding continues to create havoc, schools and educational institutions in Ghaziabad, Lucknow and Noida have declared a holiday for students.

A senior scientist at IMD has predicted that the national capital and its surrounding areas are unlikely to receive rainfall from October 10.

The IMD predicts fairly widespread or moderate rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning, in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya for today and tomorrow.
