IndiGo follows Vistara to allow a single passenger to book two seats for safety during coronavirus
  • IndiGo now allows customers to book two seats for a single passenger, in order to ensure safety in times of coronavirus.
  • The second seat booking will cost about 25% less than the original booking, as it will not attract the additional charges.
  • A week ago, Vistara had said it will soon allow passengers to be able to book the adjacent seat as well at a discounted rate so as to keep it vacant.
India’s largest low-cost-carrier IndiGo now allows customers to book two seats for a single passenger, in order to ensure safety in times of coronavirus.

The company said that the customers will be able to opt for a double seat only if the tickets are booked through IndiGo’s website. The option will not be available for bookings through travel portals or IndiGo’s call centre and airport counters.

The second seat booking will cost about 25% less than the original booking. As it will not attract any additional airports charges like passenger service charges, user development fee and will only be an airline component and GST. However, if a customer applies for cancellation, all regular charges based on the type of fare purchased will be applicable on extra seats too.

“6E double seat will provide a stress-free flying experience to our customers. We are confident that this option will enhance the passenger comfort and trust, augmenting the overall demand for air travel,” said Sanjay Kumar, chief strategy and revenue officer at IndiGo.

But the extra seat won’t get you any additional baggage allowance.

Customers can start booking the double seats from July 24.

This came a week after the Tata Sons owned Vistara airline said it will soon allow passengers to be able to book the adjacent seat as well at a discounted rate.

Vistara said as of now it is being charged like another seat. But the company is soon going to incentivise it by offering a discount for the second seat.
