ITBP jawan, wife among 19 new COVID cases in Himachal

Shimla, Jul 3 () Nineteen more people, including an ITBP jawan and his wife, tested positive for COVID-19 in Himachal Pradesh on Friday, taking the total number of infections in the state to 1,034.

Six of the fresh cases were reported from Una, four from Kinnaur, three from Hamirpur, two each from Kangra and Chamba, and one each from Solan and Mandi districts, Additional Chief Secretary, Health, R D Dhiman said.

In Kinnaur, an Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) jawan and his wife who had recently returned from Kerala tested positive for the novel coronavirus, a district official said. Advertisement

Twenty-eight ITBP jawans, 22 in Kinnaur and six in Shimla districts, have tested positive for the disease in the last two days.

In Hamirpur, the new patients include two children aged two and 10 years. Both of them had recently returned from Delhi-NCR, Chief Medical Officer Dr Archana Soni said.

Thirty-nine patients, 17 from Kangra, nine from Hamirpur, four each from Una and Shimla, two each from Solan and Sirmaur, and one from Chamba, recovered from the disease on Friday, the additional chief secretary said.

So far, 671 people have recovered, while 13 have migrated out of the state, he said.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in the state stands at 339 and fatalities at nine. Kangra has the maximum number of active cases in the state at 93, followed by 79 in Hamirpur, 46 in Solan, 31 in Kinnaur, 25 in Una, 19 in Bilaspur, 17 in Shimla, 10 in Mandi, eight in Sirmaur, seven in Chamba, and four in Lahaul-Spiti.
