Kerala to go under lockdown from May 8 to May 16 as COVID-19 cases in the state see an uptick

Kerala government has announced a full lockdown effective from May 8 till May 16 as the state witnessed a surge in COVID-19 cases in past few weeks. Kerala recorded 41,953 new COVID-19 cases and 58 fatalities in the last 24 hours, pushing the overall tally to 17,43,933 confirmed cases.

The 9-day-lockdown would come into force on May 8 morning and extend up to May 16, according to official sources.

Strict lockdown-like restrictions are already in place in the southern state and the Pinarayi Vijayan government decided to clamp the complete shutdown in the wake of severe spike in the positive cases.
