Mumbai, Apr 7 () Maharashtra Cyber has registered113 offences till Monday against people spreadingmisinformation and rumours on social media during the lockdownfor the novel coronavirus outbreak, officials said on Tuesday.

These include people who wanted to give the situationa communal colour and create law and order problems, theysaid, adding that social media platforms were being monitoredconstantly during the lockdown.

"Of the 113 offences, Beed tops with 15, followed byPune Rural with 11 and Mumbai at third with nine cases. Sataraand Jalgaon districts have seven offences each, Nashik Ruralhas six and Nashik City, Thane City and Nanded have four caseseach," an official said.

In Beed and Shivaji Nagar in Latur, some people sharedmessages linking the outbreak to a particular community, andcases have been registered in this connection.

Maharashtra Cyber warned WhatsApp group administratorsand members to not post or forward unverified, unauthenticinformation related to the virus outbreak, and warned thatfailure to adhere to these directives could lead to casesagainst all participants in a group. DCBNM BNM
