Public Health students of Hyderabad varsity roped in for COVID-19 surveillance work
Hyderabad, Apr 9 (): Students of Public Health ofcity-based University of Hyderabad (UoH) have been drafted inby the Telangana government to carry out epidemiological fieldwork in various districts across the state as part of itscontainment strategy against the spread of COVID-19.

About 15 students of the second-semester Master ofPublic Health (MPH) course of the university who havevolunteered for the work have been issued orders by districtauthorities to participate in active and passive surveillanceteams, a release from UoH said.

In addition, four research scholars and another 30students, including current MPH seniors and alumni, havesubmitted their credentials to the government and offered towork for the humanitarian cause, it said.

UoH Vice-Chancellor Prof Appa Rao Podile lauded thestudents' motivation to serve voluntarily in this hour ofcrisis and characterised it as part of the Universitys socialresponsibility mandate.

"For students of public health of our University, thisis indeed a valuable opportunity for gaining hands-onexperience in a field in which they are getting trained,"hesaid.

It may be recalled that the Telangana government hasundertaken a state-wide surveillance and containment strategyagainst COVID-19, which is in line with the recommendation ofWHO for Global Surveillance strategy for human infection withcoronavirus, the release added. VVK SS
