The Paris 2024 Olympics will feature exciting new sports and events, continuing the tradition of innovation in the Games. Many of these sports were introduced at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and are set to return this year.

Breaking, or breakdancing, will debut at the Olympics for the first time in Paris, showcasing a unique blend of dance and athleticism.

16 men and 16 women, known as B-Boys and B-Girls, will compete in a series of one-on-one battles judged on creativity, personality, technique, variety, performativity, and musicality.

Surfing returns for its second Olympic appearance but will be held in Teahupo’o, Tahiti, known for its challenging waves.

Surfers will compete on heavy, beautiful waves, demonstrating their skill and agility to ride and perform manoeuvres. The surfing events will run from July 27 to August 4, with medal events on July 30, featuring top surfers from around the world.

Skateboarding also returns after its debut in Tokyo, with events taking place at Place de La Concorde in Paris. Skateboarders will perform tricks and in street and park disciplines, judged on difficulty and execution.

The event will feature men’s and women’s street and park disciplines, with finals held on July 27-28 and August 6-7.

Sport climbing is back with a new format, featuring separate events for speed, bouldering, and lead climbing. Climbers will race up walls for speed, solve bouldering problems, and climb for height in lead, testing their strength and strategy.

The speed finals are on August 7-8, while the combined bouldering and lead medals will be awarded on August 9-10.
