India’s ‘men in blue’ turns orange in World Cup 2019, Here’s how the cricket jersey has changed from 1985 to 2015
All white -India’s simplest jersey - 1983
The year that India lifted the World Cup started off simple. The team’s first cricket jersey had no sponsor name nor bold text. They wore all plain white jerseys. The cricket teams wore white at the 1987 World Cup too.

Going colour for the first time - 1992
The 1992 World Cup was the first time that teams added colour to their jerseys. The Indian cricket team had an indigo coloured jersey with colourful stripes on shoulders. As many as nine teams participated in the World Cup that was held in Australia and New Zealand. This was also Sachin Tendulkar’s first world cup.
A combination of Yellow and Blue- 1996
In 1996, the jersey had a two colour combination of yellow and light blue. It also had alternate white and yellow horizontal stripes and a stand-out yellow collar along with rainbow coloured arrows across the chest and down the sleeves.

Yellow, more yellow - 1999
The jersey worn by the Indian cricket team in the 1999 World Cup was very similar to that worn in 1996, but had a little more yellow. The jersey had a yellow pattern with a black border across the chest, while the rest of the jersey was blue.

Tri-colour in the front-2003
The Indian jersey underwent a massive transformation in 2003 and was loved by most fans. The shade of blue became a little darker and the yellow colour was nearly eliminated. What made it different was the Indian tricolour and ‘India’ written in yellow on the front side of the jersey.

Back to the lighter shade- 2007
In 2007, the Indian jersey went back to the 1996 design, well almost. This time though the shade of blue was a lot lighter and the tri-colour was shifted to the right side whereas ‘India’ remained in the center of the jersey. The black patches were eliminated.

The winning ‘men in blue’- 2011
The 2011 jersey has captured the attention of most of the cricket fans around the world, as this was the year India won the World Cup after 28 years, under the captainship of M.S Dhoni. The design of the jersey was very much like the one worn in 2007. Although, there were some changes. Blue became tinted and “India” was written in orange.

The eco-friendly jersey- 2015
BCCI
In 2015, the Nike — the American multinational footwear brand — churned out the Indian jersey from 33 recycled plastic bottles. The design was very similar to that used in 2011 with a slight change in the shade of blue all over the jersey.
