The shooting unfolded at about 2:30 a.m. local time at the Mueller Co. plant in Albertville, according to authorities.

The gunman, whose identity was not immediately released, left the scene right after the attack in a vehicle, AL.com reported.

Albertville Police Chief Jamie Smith said the suspected shooter and the vehicle were located just before 6 a.m. in Guntersville, according to AL.com.

"The person was deceased from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound," Smith said, AL.com reported. "There is no danger to the public. Guntersville Police are handling the scene in Guntersville."

The two employees who were injured in the shooting were taken to Marshall Medical Center South for treatment, the news outlet reported. Their conditions were not immediately released.

Police have not released a motive in the deadly shooting. The identities of the victims were not immediately released, as police were notifying the family members.

A North Carolina maintenance worker arrived at the plant early Tuesday to find that the deadly shooting had occurred.

"I was thinking about coming in early this morning and getting the jump on everything," John McFalls told AL.com. "It's kind of shocking, and then it isn't, given the state of the world."

McFalls noted that he spent five days at the facility last week and said he did not witness anything unusual.

"Everyone here was friendly," he said. "I never sensed anything to be out of the ordinary. Radios playing, everybody getting along."

Mueller Co., based in Tennessee, is a subsidiary of Mueller Water Products, Inc., which deems itself a "leading manufacturer and marketer of products and services used in the transmission, distribution and measurement of water in North America."

More than 400 people work at the facility in Albertville, giving the city the "Fire Hydrant Capital of the World" nickname, AL.com reported.
