- A group of coworkers in Kentucky won $50,000 on scratch cards they got as holiday gifts.
- They won $50 on a ticket, so bought some more – and ultimately ended up with $50,000.
A group of coworkers in Kentucky won $50,000 on the lottery after repeatedly winning on scratch cards.
Sheila Colter from Bowling Green, who works as a second shift supervisor at Med Center Health Environmental Services, had ordered holiday presents online for her team but they didn't arrive on time, the Kentucky Lottery said in a press release. Instead, she got them some $30 scratch cards to share, as well as some with smaller price points.
From the $30 tickets, the team won $50. So they bought a $50 ticket – and won $100.
They used this money to buy two more $50 tickets – and one of them won $50,000.
She gifted Kentucky Lottery Scratch-offs to her team for Christmas and they ended up with a $50,000 win.
This is the second-biggest prize available through the tickets, behind the top prize of $1 million.
"We were all so excited," Colter told the Kentucky Lottery. "I was on the floor."
After taxes, the group got a check for $35,750. Split between the 21 of them, they took home around $1,750 each.
Colter said she planned to use her share of the winnings to finish her holiday shopping. Her colleague Winnie Beckman said that she would use her portion to get medicine for her mom who has stage four cancer.
"This will help a lot," she told the Kentucky Lottery. "And I will never forget this."
