Just a week into his new gig as the nation's top health spokesman, Michael Caputo is in hot water over several racist tweets on the coronavirus that he recently deleted.

CNN's KFile uncovered them from the Way Back Machine, which scrapes internet pages to preserve archives. Most of the Trump official's tweets before April 12 were recently deleted.

Caputo, the HHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs, worked on the Trump campaign in 2016 and got his start in politics as Roger Stone's driver.

On March 12, he tweeted that "millions of Chinese suck the blood out of rabid bats as an appetizer and eat the ass out of anteaters."

On another occasion, he tweeted "Coronavirus is the Democrats' new Russia, their new Ukraine. And nobody will believe them except their zombies. But know this: The Dems' strategy to defeat @realDonaldTrump requires 100s of thousands of American deaths."

"Will one of their nutjobs make it happen, a la Hodgkinson?," he added, referring to the gunman who shot Congressman Steve Scalise in the summer of 2017.

Caputo hasn't been shy to exchange barbs with critics on Twitter in the past.

He defended his coronavirus remarks by replying to users with comments such as "Don't you have a bat to eat?" and "You're very convincing, Wang."

On March 14, Caputo tweeted "Taking down names of progs who pick out of context phrases from Administration statements so they can 'LOL' for resistance cred while Washington deals with a pandemic. These are the biggest assholes. Hugest sh*tbags. Gargantuan sphincters."

On March 18, he tweeted "Double down on #ChineseVirus. Leftists lost the true meaning of 'racism' long ago. And polls show they've beaten this dead horse so badly that GOP, independent, and soft Dem voters ignore them."

Caputo did not return a request for comment from Insider.
