Trump reflected on how his mother shaped the person he is today in a new interview, saying he "couldn't do any wrong, which is a big problem," the AP reports.

In an interview with "Fox & Friends" ahead of Mother's Day on May 10, Trump paid tribute to his mother Mary MacLeod Trump, who died in 2000, aged 88.

"She was so good to me. I couldn't do any wrong, which is a big problem," he said.

"Maybe that's why I ended up the way I ended up. I don't know. I couldn't do any wrong in her eyes."

The president has frequently praised his mother as being a key influence on his life decisions. Trump also previously credited his mother for "so much of what I've done and so much of what I've become" in a 2018 video posted on his Twitter account for Mother's Day.

During the "Fox & Friends" interview, the president also wished the public a happy Mother's Day, adding that he would be spending the day with his wife Melania at Camp David in Maryland, where he also planned to meet with the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

While reflecting on raising their son Barron, the president said: "My mother was a terrific woman and Melania has been a great mother to Barron. Barron is growing up, really beautifully and she's been a great mother to Barron."

Asked whether he thought his mother would have been surprised to learn he was now president of the United States, he responded: "I think any mother would be."

"My mother was somebody that gave me a lot of confidence and she believed in me ... My father was the same, Trump added.

"I mean he, he was a strong guy but he was a good man, very good human being, very good person. And he always had confidence in me ... I miss my parents."
