In 1982, Jack Lang, France’s minister of culture and Maurice Fleuret, a French composer together landed on the concept of celebrating the World Music Day. It all began in Paris on a summer solstice day. World Music day is celebrated in more than 120 countries with free concerts staged in public places like streets, stations, museums, and parks. On this day, musicians take delight in playing in public. Starting from 1982, the summer solstice day of June 21 came to be observed as the World Music Day.
