Solana was the latest target of hackers early Wednesday, just days after a heist of Nomad's crypto bridge.

The company said on Twitter that the hack affected 7,767 wallets, while the origins of the hack are not yet known. Solana said engineers were working to find the root cause of the heist, which swiped $5.2 million in digital assets according to Bloomberg.

Solana is the latest crypto firm to be robbed in recent days. Solana's native token is the ninth-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, and was down a little over 1% at presstime after falling as much as 7% earlier in the day.

The token's performance has been dismal since the start of 2022, when it was trading at roughly $175. The cryptocurrency is down 77% year-to-date amid the broader rout in digital assets.

Meanwhile, bitcoin edged higher Wednesday, changing hands at $23,320.

Crypto hacks have become regular in 2022, highlighting security issues that still plague the sector. Nomad, a crypto bridge which allows users to transfer tokens across different blockchains, lost nearly $200 million to hackers on Monday. So far this year, $1 billion worth of crypto assets have been stolen from crypto bridges.
