JNU attacks: IIT Bombay, Pune film university, National Law School and even the Oxford is protesting against JNU mob attacks

  • Students across the country have come together in solidarity to protest against the violence that took place at the Jawaharlal Nehru University on January 5, 2020.
  • On Sunday evening, nearly 50 masked goons barged into the university campus, relentlessly beating students and teachers with metal and iron rods.
  • After 17 hours of violation, Delhi police has now filed an FIR against unidentified people who attacked the JNU students and teachers.
The anger against the attack on JNU is spreading through the length and breadth of the country. Students and citizens of Mumbai, Pune, Ranchi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Thiruvantapuram -- are all protesting against the attack by masked goons that left 20 hospitalized and many more were injured.

The president of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU), Aishe Ghosh was also injured during the attack. As many as 50 miscreants beat up students and teachers with metal and iron rods on Sunday.

Today, Ranchi students are marching towards Firayalal Chowk in protest. While students at Jadavpur University in Kolkata too are planning a protest. The protests have spread fire and wide abroad - to London and Cape Town.

This latest attack on the students will stoke the fire in the university which has already been tense after CAA protests, and prior agitation against hostel fee hike.

The Delhi police filed an FIR against unidentified people for the attacks. A case has been registered for rioting and damage to property. The student union is now seeking resignation of the University’s Vice Chancellor.

Hundreds of people staged protests in Pune on Monday condemning the manner in which students and teachers were targeted at JNU.

The impromptu protests started from midnight and continued till morning at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Campus.

In Kerala, the Students' Federation of India (SFI) — an Indian student organisation affiliated to the Communist Party of India — also held a march to the Accountant General's office in Thiruvananthapuram.

SFI state president VA Vineesh inaugurated the march.

"From the beginning, the Modi government from the beginning has been trying to destroy educational institutions in our country. They are saffronising and capitalising the education sector. But we won't bend to this, we will ideologically oppose their attempt to destroy us with weapons," News Minute reported citing Vineesh, the president of SFI.

The mob attack has also caught the attention of students abroad — from Oxford University in England. The university students called a protest “against the recent violence unleashed on JNU students” at 12 pm (local time) at the university campus.

Whereas, SOAS University of London will also hold a protest against the JNU attack at 10 am (local time) in Bloomsbury. In Cape Town, people against apartheid and fascim planned a protest at 1pm on Monday.
