Microsoft is reporting its fiscal Q1 earnings after the closing bell on Thursday.

Investors will be especially interested to see the progress of Microsoft's all-important cloud computing business, which, as of the previous quarter, was closing in on the company's goal of $20 billion in annual revenue.

Wall Street is expecting to see:

• Earnings (adjusted): $0.72 a share, flat with the same quarter in the year previous.
• Revenue: $23.56 billion, up from $22.33 billion in year-ago quarter.
