The erotica ‘50 Shades of Grey’ gets whipped up in the Indian Parliament without context

Indian opposition member Manish Tewari today shocked the country by referring to the popular erotic novel, 50 shades of Grey in the Parliament. The Congress MP from Punjab was debating government’s move to take away Kashmir’s independence and bring it under Delhi’s rule.


“There is a book in English, which says there is nothing in black or white. There are ‘50 Shades of Grey’ in between. I believe that Article 370 cannot be scrapped without the involvement of the J&K assembly,” Tewari said, debating government’s move to scrap J&K’s special status and divide it into two union territories.


What Tewari might or might not know is that the controversial novel is an erotica where the principal characters vacillate in their relationship, where one of the partner is dominant and the other is submissive.
