Mercedes-Benz wants to have 4 electric cars by 2020
Mercedes-Benz
Autocar reports that Mercedes-Benz's head of R&D, Thomas Weber, has hopes for the brand to four new electric cars to its model range by 2020.
Autocar says that it's likely that Mercedes' plan is to bring two electric sedans and two electric SUVs to market.
This push comes after Germany announced that it would offer price breaks on electric cars that are sold for under about $67,000.
Citing insiders who are working closely with the electric car model range expansion projects, Autocar reports that the four cars will be more or less similar to their gasoline counterparts, but with a few tweaks. The four cars will have electric-specific exterior body changes to distinguish them from the gasoline models.
At this current stage, Mercedes allegedly has electric motors putting out everywhere between 101 horsepower and 536 horsepower. In comparison, the Tesla Model S P90D has two motors, which when combined put out 762 horsepower.
It's looking like there will truly be an all-out brawl for the best range of electric cars from each automotive manufacturer by the beginning of the next decade. I guess there's nothing wrong with a nice, clean fight, right?
