MG Motors’ is set to launch its first electric car and the company’s second in India – MG ZS EV. All eyes are on how the automaker is going to mark in the EV segment.

While the launch is on December 5, MG has shared a few details of the technology behind the platform – its integrated platform called the i-SMART EV 2.0.

Thinking of the future with 5G

The car is 5G ready – a mobile technology that many countries across the world including India, are yet to adopt.

“The platform is Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPV6) and 5G ready. It has been developed in association with Unlimit (a Reliance ADAG company) and is based on Cisco’s Jasper platform, with Airtel as the telecom partner,” said the company.

When MG came out with its first car in India – the MG Hector in June, the marketing for the car too went through a similar approach being called ‘India’s first internet car’.

Find a charging station

By launching an electric car, MG is already taking a risk considering the slow adoption of electric vehicles in India. Yet, every top automaker is lining up an electric vehicle.

“The Indian electric car market size was valued at $71.1 million in 2017 and is projected to reach $707.4 million by 2025, witnessing a CAGR of 34.5% during the forecast period.” said Lynx Lawrence & Mayo, one of India’s leading engineering equipment providers in the country.

MG Hector is aware of opportunities and challenges alike. It has already begun setting up charging stations in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai.

To make it more convenient for the user, the MG ZS EV will come with in-built maps which tell you where the nearest charging station is. It will also show all the relevant information such as the type of charger (DC/AC) and connector.

An Alexa-like system inside your car

The MG ZS EV also comes with a voice assistant which is enabled with over 100 commands. The AI-based voice assistant has been powered by Nuance Communications and has been customised for the market as it can recognize Indian-accented speech.

Your car’s own app

Along with the car, also comes an app which will give you all the updates and information about the car – from the battery level and vehicle range to security alert, creating travel plans for the car and even an over speeding alert. The app also comes with a ‘geofencing’ feature where you can virtually predefine the geographic boundaries of the car.
