The North East State of Mizoram shares its borders with Tripura, Assam and Manipur. The state lies adjacent to the neighboring countries Myanmar and Bangladesh. Mizoram was a part of Assam till 1972 when it was carved out separately to be declared first as a union territory and then as an independent state in 1987. The electoral rolls of the state of Mizoram shows up 7,02,170 eligible electors in the state with the figure comprising of 3,46,219 males and 3,55,951 females. There are no registered third gender voters in this state.

During 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress candidate C L Ruala won from this constituency. Congress won from here during 2009 elections also. Mizo National Front had this seat for a five year term after the party won from this constituency in 2004.

The state of Mizoram has only one Lok Sabha constituency. This is reserved for scheduled tribes. This semi urban parliamentary constituency has a good literacy rate of about 91.58%. The concentration of scheduled tribe population is very high in Mizoram estimated at 94.43%. Polling for the Lok Sabha elections 2019 for this constituency was conducted in a single phase on April 11 when the country went for the first round of polling.
