Every time you visit a stadium in India to watch the IPL, one thing that bothers you is the price of water bottles. The packaged water bottles are charged higher than the MRP. When asked the sellers, they will blame it on the extra taxes and some other charges.

But finally beverage giant PepsiCo and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have decided to sell water at a uniform prices, both inside and outside the stadium. All thanks to Ram Vilas Paswan, who heads the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution at the centre.

"We have had one achievement -Pepsico's Aquafina will be sold at one price. BCCI has also issued a circular that all stadiums will sell packaged water at one price. Prices (of water) will be one inside and outside the stadium,” said Paswan at a press briefing.

It is a common practice at airports, malls and cinemas, where same water bottles are sold at double the MRP, just by mentioning ‘MRP for Select Channels.’

"Dual MRP is against law. It can attract legal action, and it is happening through National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC).” Paswan is taking steps to make consumers aware of the facts about consumer rights and asking them to approach consumer courts, if needed.
