Mandating the linking of PAN with Aadhaar, the government has so far extended the deadline seven times. The latest deadline was September 30, which has been further extended now to December 31, 2019. Hence, all PAN card holders must now link their PAN with Aadhaar.

PAN is issued by the Income Tax Department of India to persons, firms or entities and it is a 10 digit alphanumeric number. Aadhaar is issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India to all residents of the country.

During September 2018, the Supreme Court declared that the Aadhaar scheme is valid constitutionally and upheld the ruling that this biometric ID will continue to be considered mandatory for filing income tax returns as well as allotment of new PAN.

If the date of birth in both the documents match with each other perfectly, you can also choose to link PAN and Aadhaar without correcting your name either document. To do this, generate an OTP and upload a scanned copy of your PAN card on the official website of the Income Tax Department.

2. Click on the link ‘Link Aadhaar’.

4. Once you enter the details asked, enter the captcha code.
