Laxmi Nagar is a state assembly constituency that lies within the jurisdiction of the East Delhi district of Delhi. In total, there are 2,03,695 voters in this assembly seat and among them, 1,15,298 are males, 88,380 are females, and 17 are third gender electors. At present, the sitting MLA of this seat is Nitin Tyagi of AAP who won from this seat with a thin margin of votes in 2015 elections against the runner up candidate B B Tyagi of BJP.
Their vote scores were 58229 and 53383 respectively. The vote difference between them was just 4846. In the 2013 elections, the winner from this seat was Vinod Kumar Binny of AAP who scored 43052 votes. The runner up candidate of this election was Ashok Kumar Walia of INC who scored 35300 votes. The vote difference between these two candidates was 7752. In 2008 general elections for the Delhi assembly, Laxmi Nagar voters elected Ashok Kumar Walia of INC giving him 54252 votes. The runner up contestant in this election was BJP’s Murari Singh Panwar who scored 31855 votes.
Laxmi Nagar assembly seat is existing from 2008 elections. So far, this assembly seat has seen three elections for the Delhi assembly. From this seat, INC had won once and AAP had won twice. BJP is yet to open its innings in this seat. Laxmi Nagar is a general seat open for contesting by all candidates. Following a thumping victory in 2015 elections, AAP is ruling the Delhi Vidhan Sabha at present. The upcoming elections in February 2020 will decide which party will form the next government.
