The last assembly elections in Patparganj for the Deli assembly was conducted in 2015. The winning candidate from this seat was AAP’s Manish Sisodia. He scored 75477 votes. The runner up candidate of BJP’s Vinod Kumar Binny had got 46716 votes from this seat. In 2013 general elections, Manish Sisodia of AAP got 50211 votes. He won over the BJP candidate Nakul Bharadwaj who got 38735 votes.

Patparganj state assembly seat is a part of the East Delhi parliamentary district of Delhi. In this seat, there are 2,14,338 voters made of 1,21,069 males, 93,253 females and 16 third gender voters. Delhi Vidhan sabha has 70 assembly seats in total. At present the ruling party sitting on the throne of Delhi assembly is AAP under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal. The present term of this government will end on 22 February 2020 and so all the 70 constituencies of the Delhi assembly will go for polls in February 2020 to select the next set of MLAs to represent them in the Delhi Vidhan Sabha.

The Patparganj assembly seat has existed since 1993. So far this seat has seen six elections for the Delhi assembly. In 1993, the BJP won from this seat. The winning candidate of this election was Gyan Chand who scored 17020 votes. The runner up was JD candidate Amrish Singh Goutam. INC won from this seat here times in a line in 1998, 2003 and 2008 elections. AAP has been winning this seat in the last two elections in line.
