The Vidhan Sabha constituency of Rithala falls inside the jurisdiction of North West Delhi Lok Sabha seat. The tenure of the present Lok Sabha ends on 22 February 2020. Along with the other 69 assembly constituencies, Rithala will go for elections in February 2020. The total number of voters in the Rithala constituency is 248415. This number consists of 133657 males and 114737 females. 21 voters of this seat belong to the third gender.

The last assembly elections in this seat were held in 2015. During the said elections, AAP’s Mohinder Goyal won this seat defeating Kulwant Rana of BJP. The votes scored by them were 93470 and 64219 respectively. From 2008 to 2015, the BJP was holding this seat. In two consecutive elections, Kulwant Rana of the BJP party had secured an overwhelming victory from this seat. In the 2008 elections for the Delhi Assembly, he overtook the INC candidate Shambhu Dayal Sharma who got 38128 votes. In the 2013 elections, Kulwant Rana scored 739 votes while defeating Harish Awasthi of AAP who got 48135 votes.

The vote score of 93470 which was bagged by the AAP contestant Mohinder Goyal in 2015 elections was the biggest number any candidate has scored from this constituency in the assembly elections for the Delhi Vidhan Sabha. The election history in the assembly shows that Kulwant Rana of BJP won INC candidate once and AAP candidate once during the consecutive elections. Rithala is a general seat open to all for contesting for the Delhi Assembly.
