Indian National Congress (INC) ruled the Haryana state for two consecutive terms and then lost its power following a massive defeat in 2014 assembly elections when it could bag only 15 seats in the state. In 2005 elections, the party had won from 67 seats and in 2009 elections, it had secured the confidence of 40 constituencies.

In 2014 elections conducted for the assembly of Haryana, INC’s candidate Bhai Jai Prakash won from Kalayat seat, Randeep Singh Surjewala was elected from the Kaithal constituency, Kuldip Sharma bagged the Ganaur seat, Jai Tirath Dahiya won from Rai seat, and Jaiveer Singh won from Kharkhauda seat. From the Gohana seat, Jagbit Singh Malik won and from Baroda constituency Sri Krishan was sent to the assembly. Kiran Chaudhary had won from the Tosham seat.

Congress party is preparing to take on the BJP, which is seeking to capture the throne of Haryana state assembly for the second term. There are two factions within the party now that have divided the loyalties of the followers between Bhupinder Sinha Hooda, the former chief minister and Ashok Tanwar which has made the war a tougher battle this time for the INC. The counting of votes on October 24, 2019 will let us know how many seats the INC will secure this time.
