While most of the protests against CAA -- which was announced in December last year have simmered down; they continue to take place in spurts. The law which discriminates on the basis of religion while taking in immigrants, has divided and polarised the country.

The opposition party Congress has alleged that the BJP leaders are giving hate speeches in Delhi and the police is taking no action due to which there is a complete breakdown of law and order.

"Delhi Police, under Home Ministry, has completely failed to control law and order. BJP leaders have been openly giving hate speeches and threats but no action is being taken,” the Congress said.

This comes a day after police blocked internet services in Aligarh in UP after a protest against CAA turned violent. Many shops, two-wheelers and police barricades were set ablaze and stone pelting was reported from Babri Mandi, Ghas-ki-Mandi and Upperkot areas of the city.

The police lathicharge protesters and also used tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.
